Our carbon offsets are priced at $8 per ton (1 ton = .0972 metric tons). The End Fossil Fuel offsets are created by renewable energy projects in Texas. Since the green energy replaces electricity that would otherwise be produced from fossil fuel sources, we are able to claim a reduction in CO2 emissions. Per the Green-e Climate Protocol for Renewable Energy, each MWh of generation from an additional renewable energy facility results in a reduction of 1,320 lbs of CO2. |
| Using the Carbon Calculator | For those users who want to more precisely estimate their carbon emissions, we strongly encourage the use of our carbon calculator (based on data from Climate Safe and the World Resources Institute). This process only takes a few minutes and will provide an accurate accounting of your current environmental impact. To arrive at a cost for offsetting specific activities, we multiply the results of the calculator (in tons CO2) by our price per ton ($8). Keep in mind that you have the flexibility to choose which activities you want to offset. See the methodology section of the calculator for more details on how the calculations are determined. |
Definition: GHG Emission Reductions/Offsets |
This is a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction product, also called an “offset”. It represents real, quantifiable, permanent and additional reductions of a specific quantity of GHGs in the atmosphere that would have been released in the absence of the emission reduction project supported by your offset purchase. By purchasing an offset, you alone have the rights to all associated claims about the environmental benefits it embodies. An offset is a real environmental commodity, not a donation or investment in a future project. The GHG emission reductions you purchased have already taken place and are sourced from a project which is awaiting the completion of verification. Your purchase of an offset stimulates market demand for emission reduction projects, leading to more projects that can help mitigate the effects of climate change. |
